Banking Works started life in 1999 as Virtual Lease Services, a boutique startup providing portfolio management, administration and consultancy services to the Asset Finance and instalment credit market
1999
Building a specialist consultancy
Consultancy was one of the three pillars offered by VLS from day one. Reflecting market opportunities at the time, the team carved out a niche providing specialist expertise in systems and acquisitions to the lending sector.
2001
VLS launches lending
In 2003 the business evolved to include a lending business. Leveraging our experience gained scaling portfolios for others. Our ambition was focused on building our own lending book in the emerging payments sector.
2003
VLS acquired
VLS success and growth as a lending business caught the attention of the market and was acquired by Universal Leasing Group. The business was retained through subsequent disposals as a subsidiary of GFKL Financial Services.
2007
Moving into Audit & Assurance
A decision was made to pivot the business during the global financial crisis. Active in supporting portfolio and business acquistions, we created a distinct Audit & Assurance service for asset based lenders and senior debt providers.
2007
From crisis comes opportunity
Emerging from the Global Financial crisis intact, we exited the lending space to focus on building out a payment solutions service proposition. To kick-start the effort we partnered with several UK funders and payment service providers to create a marketplace offering.
2009
Introducing Standby
Our credibility and expertise in receiveables management was demonstrated when we were selected to provide Standby services to CIT Group (now PEAC Finance), a leading independent asset finance lender . This marked the introduction of Standby servicing to our wider lending audience. Our relationship with PEAC as Standby partner continues to this day.
2010
VLS acquired again
By 2011, VLS had recovered its market position and grown both its client list and team. This succesful growth led to the business being acquired through a joint venture between Investec Asset Finance and NASDAQ listed Netsol Technologies.
2011
Pioneering securitisation
In 2013 we were appointed Standby servicer for the first novel UK SME lease securitsation placed by Investec Asset Finance
2013
Venturing into POS
In 2015, VLS disposed of our payment solutions service and embarked on supporting Retail Finance point of sale start ups.
2015
Mapping a digital future
In 2017, VLS kicked off an internal review of both service and operations. Recognising changes in the market and wider sector, it acknowledged the need for change. The resulting strategy and roadmap steered a decision to invest in a significant business transformation programme. The plan focused on developing out a technology and data offer to both support and diversify the solutions provided to clients.
2017
A change in ownership
In 2019, Netsol Technologies became the sole owner of VLS.
2019
